A returning 6 x 60’ dramedy series “CIVVY STREET” by Geraint Jones, follows five comrades of war reuniting to navigate the challenges of civilian life after the death of a friend.
The series delves into the complexities faced by the characters as they grapple with PTSD, loss, relationships, and the difficulties of finding purpose and camaraderie in civilian society.
PTSD is a real thing – your writer has it – but what causes most veterans to suffer isn’t the bad memories – it’s the good ones! They miss who they were, and who they were with! To find the same level of friendship in civilian life as you did on the battlefield is a near impossible task. And most of Britain’s veterans transition into jobs which could be charitably described as ‘fucking shit.’
The army is a kind of Never Never Land, where you don’t need to ‘grow up,’ and the transitioning soldier has to learn to live all over again – who knew there was such thing as a water bill?! What’s property tax? And what do you mean we can’t just thump someone when we fall out?!
Veteran Mathew Williams reunites with his fellow soldiers to confront the struggles of transitioning from the intense experiences of war to the monotony of civilian existence.
The setting of the story primarily revolves around Blackbridge, a town characterized by its mundane nature and the challenges its inhabitants, including the veterans, encounter.
The season unfolds with episodes focusing on the characters’ attempts to navigate relationships, work, and personal demons while supporting each other through the trials of civilian life.
“Civvy Street” weaves a narrative that explores the complexities of transitioning from military service to civilian life, emphasizing themes of friendship, trauma, purpose, and the quest for normalcy in the face of extraordinary experiences.
