“This is my love letter to the world, where personal adversity collides with global catastrophe, “Bend Not Break” dares to ask:
Can humanity withstand the unyielding storms of our time?”
“Bend Not Break” revolves around the extraordinary life journey of Professor Stephen Duckworth OBE, who faced immense personal challenges, including paralysis from then neck down after a rugby accident at the age of 21 and whilst he was studying medicine, followed by seven years of infections, and later on mental health struggles, yet emerged as a beacon of resilience and hope.
The documentary skilfully intertwines Stephen’s experiences with global crises, urging viewers to reflect on their roles in addressing contemporary challenges.
Through the exploration of Modernism, Post-Modernism, Meta-Modernism, and the Future, the series showcases Stephen’s evolution, advocacy for disability rights, and his pursuit of a fairer society.
By drawing parallels between Stephen’s life and significant global events, the documentary inspires introspection, resilience, and a call to action for a better world.
Ultimately, “Bend Not Break” is a testament to the enduring power of the human spirit, offering a profound and philosophical narrative that transcends the typical portrayal of triumph over tragedy, inviting viewers to embrace hope, activism, and the transformative potential of individual agency in the face of adversity.
